ABOUT PROJECT

Taking full advantage of the experience both partner institutions have in the field of socio-economic and humanistic research, The socio-cultural challenges of the EU migration. The case of Romanians in Belgium (MIG – RoBe) represents a research regarding the socio-cultural effects of migration upon citizens from one EU country, that have settled in another one EU country. Studying Romanians in Belgium is relevant as this this is the EU country with the highest growth rate in Belgium (Romanians are 27 times more numerous than 14 years ago in Belgium).

The number of Romanians in Belgium in 2001 was 2,391, and in 2015 their number increased to 65,768. The project aims at providing a scientifically documented answer regarding the impact of migration upon the economic and cultural status as well as the linguistic and religious identity of Romanian migrants in Belgium. The outcomes of this project will contribute to a better understanding of the dynamic relationships between the migrant condition and the social and cultural status of the individual as well as to the adjustment of national and European policies regarding the migration phenomena.a


The originality of the project MIG – RoBe consists in the complex, interdisciplinary approach of the migration phenomenon, supported by both the interdisciplinary character of the research teams and the methodological tools.
